My inspiration for this piece came from my fascination with Japanese Architecture. I was exploring different ways to bend the copper (not an easy task) when, by mistake or intention, I created these arcs. Immediately, I saw the tall Japanese pagodas in my mind. Each layer with its symmetrical windows and elegance.
The recycled glass used came from Antique Seltzer, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Bombay Gin and Riesling bottles. Wrapped in copper wire and hung from patina copper frame with bell clamp hangers to give the piece distance from the wall for light and shadow. This is an indoor or all year round outdoor piece.
When working with recycled glass, I need to constantly remind myself that it is an organic entity and will do as it wishes no matter how great of a plan I set forth. This piece "Symmetry" contradicts how this medium works, it is rare that I can have complete symmetry of multiple pieces of glass. So when it happens, I celebrate and create.
This piece was created to hang outdoors all year long or indoors near natural light.
Created from an antique french aperitif bottle, Bombay Gin, NYR Organic Cream, Champagne, Riesling, red wine and Chardonnay bottles. Wrapped in copper wire and hung on a patina frame of copper. Bell clamps hold the piece at distance from its background so light can cascade through the colors of the glass.

My client filmed this video of the dappled morning sun filtering through the glass. Just makes me smile!
As I stated in a few other descriptions, I love the challenge of symmetry with this medium. Whether you hang this as a positive sign or an x the balance of the colors and design will enhance any area indoors or out.
Created with Bombay Gin for the bright blues, Riesling for the cobalt blues, NYOrganic cream for the browns, Chardonnay for the ambers, vodka and gin for the clear, and tonic for the bright green. All pieces are hand cut, kiln fired and wrapped with copper wire inside a patina copper frame. This piece can be hung out door all year round or indoor. The Bell clamp hangers give the pieces added stability and depth from the hanging surface.
Warm Organics was my solution for a limited use of color challenge. Recycled glass is limited in color as it is, but when this client challenged me to only use greens, ambers, browns and clear for their front door sidelight design, I accepted.
I set out to reflect the clients love of gardening and to create a piece that could easily flow with their interior design of warm tones, traditional ivy wall paper and oak floors; while bringing their garden in all year round. My vision of a growing/moving green stalk toned with swirls of amber and surrounded with cool clear pools took shape and is greatly loved by my client.
Dimensions are 7.25" w x 67" h
Created from various Chardonnay, Champagne, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Riesling, Vodka, Bourbon and Whiskey bottles
“I approached Creative Impulse because our home had a plain front door entryway with two vertical sidelights that needed professional help. I worked with the artist, Jennifer, and after sending pictures and measurements of the door we exchanged a series of emails with designs, questions, and modified solutions.
Creativimpulse helped me by suggesting a flowing solution that allowed for varying color that changed between dawn, daylight and night.
The result was exceptional and far exceeded our expectations. We had incomparable service and attention to our decorating needs, and the sidelights are truly a showcase product for an originally plain entryway. I’d like to add that the packaging of the large art was a concern; however it arrived with fitted Styrofoam, plywood and secure cardboard via Fed Ex Ground. Detailed installation instructions with diagrams and mounting hardware were included, making for a quick and easy installation.
One thing I really liked was that we were sent in-process pictures throughout the design and assembly process, allowing the ability to make changes if needed before the art was complete. However, that wasn’t necessary. I found the experience very stress-free.
I would recommend Creative Impulse (Jennifer Harkey) to anyone seeking a custom glass art piece for your home, yard or office. The fact that it’s all made out of recycled glass is very unique and satisfying.” – Lynne and Mark
My husband and I created these upcycled bottle sconces to add warm soft light to your foyer, dining area, bar, family area or 4 season room.
Oak - reclaimed fallen trees out of a local North Carolina Alpaca farm. My husband spent a great deal of time bringing out the beauty of this old oak and the accents that mother nature has added to its surface. Most of the pairs have several wood worm etchings and darker striations caused by weathering. Each pair is created from the same plank of wood to ensure its match.
Glass bottle candle holder - inverted Makers Mark® Whiskey, Jack Daniels, Blanton's, Tres' Tequilla and Weller bourbon bottles. Our recycled bottles are collected from friends, family and local establishments. The bottle bottoms are carefully removed, wrapped in copper tape, tinned and treated with solder and black patina. The edge will continue to patina and add to the distressed look.
Soy Candle - included - is a Lemon Grass and Green Tea essential oil blend, hand poured by a local North Carolina candle maker.
The cast iron and zinc plated hardware give the sconce a unique industrial feel as well as hold the bottle firmly in place. The bottle is shipped detached from the hardware to ensure its safety and accompanied with easy detailed assembly instructions.
The back of the sconce is fitted with a metal hanging plate that requires a single headed nail for a secure flat against the wall installation.

My clients had just finished an expansive garden layout behind their new home, which this porch overlooks. They asked me to put a modern abstract twist on a piece that reflects their garden. Luckily recycled glass comes in perfect sunflower tones. My idea was to give the feel of a sunflower surrounded by blue sky. The interior weave of the copper wire reflects the design of the large sunflower head. Visitors are greeted with the design as they enter the main door. It truly comes to life when sitting on the porch and as the sunlight filters through.
"Jennifer made a custom piece for our screened porch, and we absolutely love it! Everyone who visits comments on how beautiful it is, and how perfectly it compliments the space. Jennifer took care of every detail, from measurements and color selection to installation. We are truly thrilled with it!" - Laura and Dave

Wind chimes are a fun way for me to share my love of recycling glass with everyone. These are a few of the many I have created. New designs can be purchased through myself or commissioned by contacting me via email - firstname.lastname@example.org
If you have every really examined clear glass you can discover a varying range of blues, greens, pinks, frosted and clear hues. When hung on a wall, used as a room divider, or outside for an accent piece, the clear glass works as an enhancer to its background. This piece creates dramatic shadows and changes in tone with the light of the day.
Created from well over 30 different "clear" recycled bottles, wrapped in copper wire and hung from a copper frame. Industrial pipe hangers are used to add to the look as well as give it depth from the wall for shadow and light. This is an indoor wall hanging, room divider or season porch piece.
